The Senior Pipeline Engineer leverages best practices and industry knowledge to enhance the Pipeline Engineering discipline within McDermott. They serve as a resource for less experienced colleagues, sharing expertise related to pipeline engineering. The role involves solving complex problems, applying discipline-specific knowledge, and impacting various customer activities across operational, project, or service domains, ensuring compliance with guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities, Key Tasks, and Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering for onshore and offshore pipeline systems, requiring thorough knowledge of design codes and hands-on experience with relevant software.
  • Conduct conceptual FEED studies, detailed analyses, and design work according to project specifications, codes, and standards, demonstrating in-depth expertise in pipeline engineering.
  • Prepare detailed design calculations, analyses, reports, and procedures, managing time effectively to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Communicate complex issues clearly, establishing understanding across teams.
  • Review project scope, specifications, schedules, and interdisciplinary requirements, addressing concerns proactively.
  • Identify scope changes, raise change notifications, and support variation orders.
  • Assist in bid proposal estimates, including technical queries, execution statements, and man-hour estimates.
  • Maintain compliance with procedures, standards, and operational requirements through technical queries and design basis development.
  • Participate in project meetings, vendor meetings, site surveys, and review design reports and procedures.
  • Provide technical direction and review work of designers related to pipeline engineering.
  • Support procurement activities, ensuring compliance and evaluating technical quotations.
  • Review vendor and subcontractor submittals for compliance, perform design verification, and support fabrication queries.
  • Keep the Lead Engineer informed of activities, concerns, and resource needs.
  • Contribute to planning, progress reporting, and lessons learned documentation.
  • Act as a resource and mentor for less experienced engineers, guiding them on procedures, standards, and technical tasks.
  • Manage costs related to work activities.
  • Review technical specifications, fabrication and installation documents, and perform analyses such as wall thickness design, stability, cathodic protection, and stress analyses using FEA tools.
  • Design pipeline components and support structures, route selections, and mitigation measures for buckling, seismic activity, and other risks.
  • Qualifications include a minimum of years of oil and gas experience, a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and preferably a Master's degree. Professional registration, knowledge of standards and software, and strong communication skills are essential. The role requires flexibility for reassignment across departments, sites, and offices, and a focus on safety, quality, and cost efficiency.
