Job DescriptionThe Director of Veterinary Services & Operations (Large Animal) will serve as the executive clinical authority and operational leader responsible for the end-to-end planning, layout design, medical equipment specification, setup, and commissioning of a world-class large animal medical center.
This strategic executive position bridges advanced large animal clinical expertise with comprehensive facility management, holding full accountability for regulatory compliance, operational framework design, clinical governance, and team leadership to position the hospital as a premier regional veterinary destination
Responsibilities:-
Strategic Planning & Project Execution
• Lead the entire project lifecycle of the large animal Hospital from initial design and layout through to operational launch.
• Define the hospital’s core and specialized service scope, including soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, internal medicine, advanced digital imaging, sports medicine, rehabilitation, and emergency services.
• Formulate business plans, feasibility studies, financial forecasts, and operational delivery models.
• Collaborate directly with architects, contractors, and medical consultants to optimize hospital workflow and structural design in compliance with local veterinary regulations.
Licensing, Regulatory Compliance & Governance
• Oversee full compliance with relevant UAE Ministries, local agriculture/food safety authorities (ADAFSA), and regulatory bodies.
• Manage all inspections, facility licensing, and approvals required for veterinary clinical practice and pharmaceutical management.
• Establish robust biosecurity, waste management, radiation safety, and infection control protocols.
Medical Infrastructure & Equipment Commissioning
• Specify, source, and procure advanced medical technology, including digital imaging (X-ray, MRI, CT), surgical suites, laboratory equipment, ICU, and recovery units.
• Evaluate technical vendor proposals, negotiate terms, and oversee full equipment integration and calibration.
Operational Setup & Quality Assurance
• Develop comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) covering admissions, emergency response, anesthesia, surgical protocols, and medical record keeping.
• Build integrated inventory systems, pharmacy controls, and clinical quality assurance guidelines.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
• Recruit, onboard, and mentor a high-performing clinical and administrative team, including veterinarians, technicians, nurses, and support staff.
• Drive a culture of clinical excellence, safety, continuous professional development (CPD), and patient-centric care.
Stakeholder Management & Budget Control
• Prepare and manage capital expenditure (CapEx) and operational expenditure (OpEx) budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and cost efficiency.
• Build referral networks and strategic partnerships with regional equestrian clubs, private stables, horse owners, breeders, and international veterinary research institutes.
Requirements
· Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or international equivalent; clinical specialization in Medicine or Surgery is strongly preferred.
· Post-graduate specialization or board certification (e.g., DACVS, DECVS, DACVIM, or equivalent) in Large Animal Surgery/Medicine is strongly preferred.
· Minimum of 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in veterinary practice and clinical leadership.
· Demonstrated track record of setting up, commissioning, or managing a hospital or major veterinary facility. Proven experience in medical equipment procurement, vendor evaluation, and facility layout design.
· Deep understanding of GCC/UAE industry dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and local licensing authorities (ADAFSA/MOEI).
· Professional certifications in Project Management (PMP), Healthcare/Hospital Management, or Clinical Leadership.
· Advanced clinical knowledge of medicine, diagnostics, and surgical operations.
· Exceptional project execution, budgeting, and technical stakeholder management skills.
· Strong leadership capability to build and govern multi-disciplinary clinical teams. High professional ethics, communication skills, and regulatory problem-solving ability.
