3RD W/K ENGINEER

Job Description

The 3rd WK Engineer plays a vital role in the efficient and safe operation of the dredging engine. They are responsible for assisting the 2nd and 1st Engineers in maintaining and repairing the engine and its components. This position requires a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the 2nd and Chief Engineers in daily engine maintenance and repair tasks.
• Monitor and record engine performance data, identifying any potential issues or anomalies.
• Conduct regular inspections and tests to ensure the engine's optimal performance and compliance with safety standards.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose engine-related problems, implementing effective solutions.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication.
• Assist in the installation and commissioning of new engine components or systems.
• Collaborate with other engineering team members to ensure seamless integration of the dredging engine with other vessel systems.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation of all maintenance and repair activities.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations at all times.
• Provide support and guidance to junior engineering staff as needed.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a 3rd Engineer or equivalent role in the marine industry, preferably on dredgers.
• A valid 3rd Engineer's License or similar certification.
• Strong knowledge of marine engine systems, including diesel engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment.
• Proficiency in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating effective communication and collaboration.
• Willingness to work in a dynamic and sometimes challenging marine environment.
• Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor as required.
• A commitment to safety and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks.
• Flexibility to work varying schedules, including shifts and overtime, as needed.
