Job Responsibilities

• Obtains and documents a patient assessment incorporating all available data and information.
• Utilizes observation, interview, measurement, and physical examination techniques in performing assessments.
• Assesses family adaptation, coping skills, and identifies the need for crisis or intervention support.
• Updates the nursing care plan continually as patient status demands.
• Commences discharge planning as soon as feasible, in cooperation with the patient and significant others.
• Delivers care using the nursing process, setting priorities for care delivery.
• Delegates and supervises nursing care performed by junior staff nurses.
• Co‑ordinates care delivered by other health professionals.
• Provides culturally competent care in a non‑judgmental, non‑discriminatory manner, preserving autonomy, dignity, and rights.
• Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift.
• Provides family‑centered care by communicating evolving health‑care needs to the family.
• Communicates evaluation and subsequent care plans to patients, significant others, and the healthcare team.
• Demonstrates excellent triage skills.
• Follows appropriate algorithms in emergency management (BLS, ACLS, PALS, PEARS, NRP).
• Effectively cannulates patients and ensures adequate hydration.
• Ensures safe transportation of critically ill patients with lifesaving equipment.
• Maintains awareness of and manages medico‑legal cases and associated sample dispatch.
• Assists in ambulance services for patient transport.
• Transfers patients to the appropriate department per physician instructions, providing a detailed hand‑over to nursing staff.
• Handles patients with road‑traffic accidents, burns, and poisoning.
• Applies the Glasgow Coma Scale accurately.
• Supports implementation and management of the unit budget.
• Notifies nurse manager/head nurse of malfunctioning equipment and efficiently utilizes resources.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
• Adheres to hospital safety protocols and ensures patient safety.
• Guides and supervises the work of nurse associates.
• Rationally delegates tasks to nurse associates and other health‑care assistants.
• Works collaboratively and supports team member efforts.
• Follows strict infection‑control protocols and assumes responsibility for quality assurance.
• Provides end‑of‑life care respectful of cultural contexts.
• Demonstrates exceptional customer service and collaborates effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, staff, and the broader health‑care community.
• Keeps current with trends in nursing practice and management through formal education and self‑development.
• Commits to the philosophy of Aster DM Healthcare.
• Pursues professional growth via theoretical knowledge updates and participation in training programs.
• Complies with all licensing requirements.
• Participates in quality assurance, research initiatives, and unit meetings to contribute to clinic objectives.
• Assists in development and implementation of unit‑based policies and procedures related to patient care.
• Contributes to programs for quality improvement in nursing practices.
• Participates in staff education and meetings.
• Engages in other activities of the medical centre/hospital.
