Material Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Material Engineer with strong experience in construction and interior fit-out projects. The candidate will be responsible for managing material approvals, reviewing technical specifications, coordinating with suppliers and project teams, and ensuring that all materials used on projects meet the required quality and project standards.

The ideal candidate should have good knowledge of construction and fit-out materials, strong attention to detail, and experience working closely with consultants, contractors, suppliers, and site teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Review project drawings, specifications, BOQs, and material requirements.
  
• Identify and recommend suitable materials for construction and fit-out projects.
  
• Prepare and submit Material Submittals (MS) for consultant/client approval.
  
• Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain technical data sheets, samples, certificates, and other required documentation.
  
• Ensure materials comply with project specifications, approved standards, and consultant requirements.
  
• Follow up on material approvals and maintain proper records.
  
• Coordinate with procurement, project management, engineering, and site teams to ensure timely material availability.
  
• Inspect delivered materials and verify them against approved samples and specifications.
  
• Identify non-conforming materials and coordinate corrective actions where required.
  
• Evaluate alternative materials and provide technical recommendations when necessary.
  
• Maintain material registers, approval logs, and related documentation.
  
• Assist project teams with technical queries related to materials.
  
• Ensure materials are sourced from approved and reliable suppliers.
  
• Stay updated on relevant construction materials, standards, and industry practices.
  

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
  
• 3–7 years of relevant experience in material engineering/material management within construction, interior fit-out, or contracting companies.
  
• Strong knowledge of construction and fit-out materials including civil, architectural, finishing, MEP-related, and specialty materials.
  
• Experience in preparing and managing material submittals and approvals.
  
• Good understanding of project specifications, drawings, BOQs, and technical documentation.
  
• Experience dealing with consultants, suppliers, manufacturers, and site/project teams.
  
• Good knowledge of material quality standards and compliance requirements.
  
• Strong documentation, coordination, and follow-up skills.
  
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  
• Proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of AutoCAD and other relevant engineering software is an advantage.
  
• UAE construction/fit-out experience is preferred.
