Position: Paper Machine Hydraulic / Mechatronic Engineer
Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly experienced and technically strong Paper Machine Hydraulic / Mechatronic Engineer to join our maintenance team at a leading paper manufacturing facility in Abu Dhabi. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with modern paper machines, complex hydraulic systems, and mechatronic equipment in heavy industrial environments.
This is a critical operational role requiring someone who can take ownership from day one with minimal supervision and a very short learning/running-in period.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot hydraulic and mechatronic systems on modern paper machines
- Lead, guide, and supervise a technical maintenance team in field operations
- Plan and schedule maintenance activities through CMMS/SAP systems
- Conduct preventive and predictive maintenance on paper machine hydraulic systems
- Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues independently with strong problem-solving capabilities
- Ensure all maintenance work meets operational requirements and safety standards
- Coordinate with production teams to minimize downtime and optimize machine performance
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, repairs, and system modifications
- Train and mentor junior technicians and engineers on hydraulic and mechatronic systems
- Support commissioning and installation of new equipment and system upgrades
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Essential:
- 10 15 years of relevant experience as a Paper Machine Hydraulic / Mechatronic Engineer or in a closely related technical role
- Strong hands-on experience with modern paper machines, preferably with exposure to complex and multiple hydraulic systems
- OR extensive experience in comparable heavy industries with similar hydraulic/mechatronic systems (e.g., steel, cement, power generation, oil & gas)
- Proven technical knowledge in hydraulic systems, mechatronics, troubleshooting, maintenance, and field operations
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience leading and supervising technical teams in the field
- Hands-on experience with work planning and maintenance scheduling through CMMS or SAP (SAP PM module preferred)
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities with ability to handle technical issues independently
- Strong hands-on approach with ability to work effectively under operational pressure and tight deadlines
- Ready to take responsibility from day one with minimal supervision and a very short learning period
Preferred:
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Experience with Voith, Andritz, or Valmet paper machine systems
- Certifications in hydraulic systems, predictive maintenance, or condition monitoring
- Experience in paper manufacturing industry specifically
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Hydraulic systems design, operation, and maintenance
- Mechatronic systems integration and troubleshooting
- CMMS/SAP for work order management and maintenance planning
- Preventive and predictive maintenance methodologies
- Condition monitoring techniques (vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography)
- PLC and automation systems (basic understanding)
- Reading and interpreting P&ID, hydraulic schematics, and electrical drawings
- Root cause analysis and failure investigation

REMUNERATION & BENEFITS
The remuneration package will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, technical expertise, and suitability for the position.
