Role Summary:
In this leadership role, you will be responsible for structuring, implementing, and overseeing Metabolic’s physician pathway in metabolic and diabetes care, ensuring that General Practitioners are appropriately classified, trained, supervised, and certified to deliver safe, evidence-based metabolic services.
The role is aligned with:
- JCIA standards for clinical governance, staff competency, scope of practice, and quality oversight
- American Diabetes Association (ADA) Standards of Care for diabetes management, education, and technology-supported care.
Key Responsibilities:
Physician Classification & Scope of Practice
- Develop and maintain a formal classification framework for:
- Metabolic Specialists (Diabetes Educator–certified physicians)
- Specialist GPs with defined competencies in metabolic and diabetes care
- Clearly define scope of practice, referral thresholds, and escalation pathways in accordance with JCIA credentialing and privileging standards.
Education, Training & Certification:
- Lead the Metabolic Certification Program for physicians
- Design structured training pathways with defined learning objectives, timelines, and competency milestones
- Oversee assessment and certification of physicians in line with:
- ADA evidence-based clinical standards
- JCIA requirements for staff competency validation and ongoing professional development
Hybrid Care & Remote Monitoring Oversight:
- Ensure proper integration of trained physicians into:
- CGM onboarding and interpretation workflows
- Remote glucose monitoring programs
- Medication refill and continuity-of-care pathways
- Maintain protocols that ensure patient safety, documentation quality, and escalation processes consistent with ADA digital health guidance and JCIA quality and safety standards.
Scheduling & Departmental Operations:
- Oversee scheduling and workforce planning for Metabolic Specialists and Specialist GPs
- Manage annual leave, sick leave, and coverage planning
- Ensure service continuity and safe staffing levels across clinics and remote services, in alignment with JCIA operational governance requirements.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement:
- Monitor clinical quality, adherence to protocols, and patient experience
- Identify training gaps and implement corrective education plans
- Provide structured supervision and mentorship to physicians, supporting a culture of continuous improvement and patient-centered care.
Governance & Reporting
You will report directly to the Medical Director / CMO and will work closely with Endocrinology, Diabetes Education, Nursing, and Digital Health teams to ensure integrated care delivery.
Your performance will be reviewed periodically based on:
- Physician certification outcomes
- Quality and safety indicators
- Compliance with JCIA and ADA-aligned clinical standards
- Operational effectiveness of the department
Requirements
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized medical school.
- Board certification or equivalent qualification in General Practice/Family Medicine.
- Fellowship or additional training in Diabetology and Endocrinology from a reputable institution (preferred).
- Valid medical license (DHA) to practice as a General Practitioner in Dubai, UAE.
- Proven experience working as a General Practitioner with a focus on Diabetology and/or Endocrinology in a clinical setting.
- Strong clinical skills and knowledge in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of diabetes and/or endocrine disorders.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient-centered care skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
- Commitment to continuous professional development, lifelong learning, and quality improvement.
- Compassion, empathy, and dedication to providing high-quality, patient-centered care.
- Function as a Diabetes Educator.
- Pump training certificate (a bonus).
- Experience in pumps: installing, monitoring, adjusting (a bonus).
- Experience in CGMs: (e.g. Freestyle, Dexcom, Medtronic.Expertise and experience in insulin titration.
- Experience in oral diabetic medication.
- Experience in carb counting.
- Dealing with type 1 diabetes: calculating ICR and adjusting insulin doses.
- Pediatric experience/coverage.
