Overview
Job Title : Quantum Error Correction Engineer / Researcher (1 Position)
We are looking for a dedicated Quantum Error Correction (QEC) Engineer / Researcher to join our quantum systems team. In this role you will design, implement, and evaluate error-correction and error-mitigation strategies that improve qubit fidelity and enable scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computation. You will work closely with hardware, control, and algorithm teams to translate QEC theory into practical, reproducible solutions on simulators and near-term devices. This role suits someone who combines strong theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience in simulation, decoding, and system-level integration.
Responsibilities
- QEC Scheme Design : Research and design error-correcting codes and fault-tolerance schemes (e.g., surface codes, LDPC, concatenated codes) tailored to our hardware constraints.
- Decoder Development : Implement and optimize classical decoders and real-time decoding pipelines (e.g., MWPM, union-find, neural decoders) for low-latency operation.
- Simulation & Benchmarking : Build high-fidelity simulation frameworks to evaluate logical error rates, threshold behavior, and performance under realistic noise models.
- Error Mitigation : Develop and apply error-mitigation techniques (zero-noise extrapolation, probabilistic error cancellation, symmetry verification) for near-term algorithms.
- Integration with Control Stack : Collaborate with firmware and control engineers to integrate QEC primitives into timing-sensitive control flows and experiment orchestration.
- Experimentation : Design and run experiments on hardware (or cloud backends) to validate QEC concepts, analyze results, and iterate on implementations.
- Tooling & Automation : Create reproducible notebooks, pipelines, and CI tests for QEC experiments; develop monitoring and metrics for logical qubit performance.
- Documentation & Communication : Document methodologies, produce technical reports, and present findings to research and engineering stakeholders.
- Research & Collaboration : Keep abreast of advances in QEC research, publish or present results where appropriate, and collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams.
Qualifications
Education : MSc or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with strong emphasis on quantum information or error correction.Technical Background : Deep understanding of quantum error correction theory, decoding algorithms, and fault-tolerance thresholds.Programming & Simulation : Proficiency in Python and scientific libraries (NumPy, SciPy); experience with quantum SDKs and simulators (Qiskit, Cirq, Stim, Forest, or equivalent) and with building simulation pipelines.Decoder & Algorithms : Hands-on experience implementing decoders or classical post-processing for QEC experiments; familiarity with ML-based decoders is a plus.Hardware Awareness : Practical knowledge of qubit noise sources, calibration, and limitations of common qubit platforms (superconducting, trapped ions, photonics, etc.).Experiment Design : Experience designing reproducible experiments, statistical analysis of noisy data, and extracting meaningful metrics (logical error rates, fidelities).Systems Thinking : Ability to work across hardware, firmware, and software boundaries to make QEC practically deployable.Communication : Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain technical concepts to both researchers and engineers.Publication / Open Source (nice to have) : Research publications, open-source contributions, or documented experiment notebooks in QEC or related areas. How to Apply
If you are passionate about making fault-tolerant quantum computing a reality and enjoy bridging theory and practice, we’d love to hear from you. Please apply with your CV, links to relevant repositories or publications, and a short note describing a QEC problem you worked on.
