Responsibilities
The Project Risk Manager is responsible for identifying, assessing, and managing risks throughout the lifecycle of oil and gas projects. This includes embedding risk mitigation strategies in project planning and execution to safeguard timelines, budgets, safety, and compliance. The position oversees the planning, development and management of the Risk Management Plan and ensures integration of risk management across all projects in the portfolio.

Facilitation of risk reviews through Front-end Loading phasesAlignment with Group Risk Management Standards for each phaseAlignment with other key elements of the project (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Commissioning, Estimating, Scheduling and Cost Accounting)Support the development of commercial contracts from a risk management perspective and adjust the Risk Management Plan based on negotiationsEnsure alignment of all key stakeholders on risk tolerance principles for the projectSchedule and facilitate regular risk reviewsEnsure calibration of risks on the project and between projects within the same Business UnitTrack implementation of treatment actions and analysis of their efficacyInitiate and facilitate risk assessment of material changes to the projectSupport estimating and finance / project economics in the quantification of risks to support forecasting and contingency settingInterpret the results from the analysis and modelling and provide advice and guidance to managersLiaise with project staff, particularly planning and cost control teams, regarding contingency and uncertainty forecastingDevelop and implement risk management plans and processes for major capital projectsIdentify project-specific risks (technical, environmental, financial, regulatory, safety) through qualitative and quantitative analysisFacilitate risk workshops with project teams and stakeholdersMaintain risk registers and ensure accurate documentation of all identified risks and mitigation strategiesCoordinate with engineering, construction, procurement and HSE teams to integrate risk mitigation into project execution plansMonitor and report on risk status and trends throughout the project lifecycleProvide risk input to project governance bodies, change control boards and steering committeesLiaise with contractors and vendors to assess and align risk management practicesContribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives in risk managementEnsure compliance with corporate and regulatory standards related to riskEnsure QA of data input into reportsAssist in the quantification of risksMaintain a clear, up-to-date risk register for the projectIncorporate risks and opportunities identified in reviews into the project risk registerEnsure quality and frequency of risk reviewsTrack and analyze treatment actionsProvide early transparent reporting of risk issues and progressive trending of risk exposureSupport project controls, finance and project economics in the quantification of risksContribute to improving the quality and performance of risk processes and systemsPrepare and maintain the live Risk Register in the Risk Management system and review monthlyConsolidate project risk data to present a holistic pictureAdvise risk owners of all risks for which they are responsible on a monthly basisEnsure that controls and management measures are implemented and monitored by the risk or action ownerUpdate the Enterprise risk management team with the strategic project risk portfolio and ensure smooth synergyQualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Project Management, Risk Management, or related fieldMaster’s degree or professional certification (e.g., PMI-RMP, Prince2, ISO 31000) preferred10+ years of experience in project risk management, ideally in the oil and gas sectorExperience with risk analysis tools such as SAFRAN, Deltek Acumen, Primavera Risk Analysis, @RISK, or similarStrong knowledge of project controls, planning, and HSE risk factorsQuantitative background preferable in statistics, scientific modelling, financial modellingSkills
Excellent communication and stakeholder managementIn-depth knowledge of risk management processes and systemsCost and schedule risk modelling using specialised softwareWorking knowledge of project schedulingAble to work with minimal supervisionStrong numerical capabilityStrategic thinker with forecasting abilityAbility to clearly communicate and articulate project requirements and visions at all levelsExperience undertaking qualitative and quantitative risk analysis and modeling (e.g., Monte Carlo) for cost and scheduleAbout Us
