Provides safe transport of patients to and from the operating rooms. Manages transport and storage of equipment and supplies.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize tasks to ensure effective functioning within the area.
- Follow the chain of command when reporting incidents or concerns.
- Manage workload efficiently and complete correspondence promptly.
- Maintain a safe working environment by strictly adhering to Hospital Policies and Procedures regarding safety, infection control, and security.
- Coordinate patient flow within the Operating Room and facilitate transfer of equipment from other departments under the guidance of the Holding Bay Nurse and Unit Coordinator.
- Assist staff nurses in transporting patients from the ward to the Operating Room and vice versa, following established procedures.
- Identify patients accurately using two identifiers (name and MRN).
- Help with the transport and positioning of patients within the Operating Room as requested by OR staff.
- Assist nursing staff with the safe movement of equipment within the Operating Room and between areas, ensuring proper use of equipment.
- Transport Operating Room tables safely within the department.
- Support registered nurses in transporting critical patients to and from the Operating Room.
- Check and replenish specimen containers and ensure an adequate supply of Formalin.
- Sort and distribute laundered linen and maintain sufficient linen supplies.
- Monitor stock levels of designated consumables used in the department.
- Re-stock warming cabinets with blankets, linen, and irrigation fluids as needed.
- Deliver mail and documents to and from the Operating Room as required.
- Collect medications from the Pharmacy as needed.
- Deliver supplies and equipment to the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD).
- Transport specimens to the Laboratory using proper containers as needed.
- Collect and store supplies as required.
- Participate in staff orientation when needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient Porter audit slips.
- Keep work areas clean and maintain tidiness in Operating Room corridors.
- Participate actively in unit staff meetings (60%-80% of the year).
- Contribute to the development and achievement of unit goals.
- Perform additional duties within the scope of practice as required.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.Proficiency in English (written and spoken).Organizational and customer service skills / experience preferred.Basic Life Support (BLS) / Heart Saver certification preferred.About Us
