Responsibilities include planning, preparing and delivering lessons; teaching to the educational needs of individual students and groups; assigning, correcting and marking work; assessing and reporting on student development, progress, attainment and behavior; participating in appraisal of student performance; promoting the well-being and progress of students; providing guidance on educational and social matters and future education and careers. The role may involve communicating with others to ensure the best interests of students, and supporting inclusive education and pastoral care.
- Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to all students in the class.
- Teach according to the educational needs, abilities and potential of the individual students and groups of students.
- Assign work, correct and mark work carried out by his / her students.
- Assess, record and report on the development, progress, attainment and behavior of students.
- Participate in appraisal of students’ performance.
- Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students, groups of students or class entrusted to him / her.
- Provide guidance and advice to students on educational and social matters and on their further education and future careers.
- Communicate, consult and co-operate with other members of the school staff to ensure the best interests of students.
- Conduct review and self-evaluation of teaching and learning strategies, methodologies and programs in line with curriculum guidelines.
- Advise and co-operate with the Principal, Vice Principal, Head of Department, Supervisor, SEND Coordinator, and other teachers in the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programs, methods of teaching and assessment and pastoral care arrangements.
- Ensure high standards of professional practice and quality of teaching and learning through active collaboration and observation.
- Assist with safe custody and effective use of equipment in the classroom and staff room.
- Participate in professional development opportunities provided by the school and contribute to the development of new teachers.
- Monitor student discipline and safeguard health and safety at all times.
- Participate in Staff Meetings and Parent Teacher Meetings as required, and participate in school assemblies to maintain order and discipline.
- Register attendance and report absences as required.
- Collaborate with parents on the progress of their children and communicate relevant information respectfully.
- Support development of Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) for students with Special Educational Needs.
- Make use of audio-visual technology and other adaptations during lessons.
- Take substitution or temporary duties when required and ensure effective deployment of classroom support if any.
- Submit Weekly Lesson Plans on time and record assessment / test / examination marks as directed.
- Participate in curriculum review meetings and contribute to curriculum development.
- Contribute to textbook selection and ensure compliance with academic requirements and school inspections as needed.
- Fulfill any additional responsibilities as requested by line managers, Vice Principal and Principal.
