Job Purpose
The Senior Mechanical Technician is responsible for leading and supervising a team of technicians while overseeing the inspection, repair, maintenance, and overhauling of marine engines, generators, transmissions, and associated mechanical systems. The role provides advanced technical expertise, ensures operational reliability, and maintains compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in marine and workshop environments.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Inspection, Maintenance & Repair
- Inspect marine engines, generators, transmissions, and related mechanical systems and conduct diagnostic tests to identify faults.
- Dismantle, remove, repair, rebuild, and assemble engines, generator assemblies, transmissions, and mechanical components in accordance with service manuals and technical specifications.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure maximum reliability and performance.
- Troubleshoot reported mechanical issues and resolve them in a timely and effective manner.
- Carry out additional technical tasks such as hydraulic system repairs, component refurbishment, and painting as required.
Technical Leadership & Supervision
Lead, supervise, and support a team of technicians, providing technical guidance, training, and mentoring.Ensure work is executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with company and industry standards.Provide consultation and advice on correct maintenance practices and preventive measures to operators and end users.Workshop & Inventory Management
Monitor spare parts inventory and arrange ordering of parts, consumables, and supporting materials as required.Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and components.Ensure workshop tools, equipment, and machinery are maintained in proper working condition.Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate logs of maintenance, repair activities, and service history.Prepare technical reports and documentation related to inspections, repairs, and maintenance work.Provide necessary technical documentation and support to subordinates and workshop staff.Safety, Quality & Compliance
Ensure all equipment, tools, and work activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.Enforce safe working practices and marine safety standards at all times.Identify and report safety hazards and take corrective actions to mitigate risks.General Responsibilities
Work in indoor and outdoor locations, including workshops and onboard vessels.Willingness to work overtime when required to meet operational needs.Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.Minimum Qualifications & Experience
High school diploma preferred; certification from a vocational or technical institute in a related field is an advantage.6–10 years of experience in mechanical maintenance and engineering, preferably in marine or heavy equipment environments.Strong proficiency in using hand tools and precision measurement instruments (e.g., spanners, calipers, micrometers).Ability to read and interpret service manuals, procedures, and technical drawings.Good communication skills and strong problem-solving ability.Physically fit with good strength and stamina for demanding work conditions.Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.Valid UAE Light Vehicle Driving License (preferred).ERP / SAP knowledge is an advantage.Key Skills & Competencies
