Purpose of Role
The candidate will be responsible to prepare, manage and run the teaching and learning practical class laboratories at the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS), Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus; and provide support to academic staff and students to ensure efficient operation of space and equipment in the civil and architectural engineering laboratories, and workshop. The candidate must be proactive, hands-on, solutions-driven and have a good attitude toward working within the academic community.
Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities :
- Plan, prepare, conduct and facilitate laboratory practicals for students within the Civil and Architectural Engineering teaching and research laboratories.
- Understand and acknowledge risks associated with the work activity and always operate in a safe and compliant manner applying control measures identified through risk assessment.
- Procurement and stock-control of all EGIS equipment (capital and consumables).
- Train students in the use of equipment and procedures within the teaching and research laboratories.
- Demonstrate equipment and techniques to students and staff as the need arises.
- Provide technical support for Bachelors, Masters and PhD dissertations and projects.
- Set up, adjust, calibrate, clean, maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
- Fault find equipment problems and repair equipment or arrange external servicing and repair.
- Responsible for the safe storage and disposal of all waste and chemicals. Ensuring all health and safety regulations are strictly adhered to and all staff and students in the teaching class areas are following safety procedures.
