Position Overview
The Technical Proposals Engineer is a key contributor to the successful delivery of high-quality, compliant, and
competitive technical proposals. This role is responsible for managing the technical scope of bids and tenders, ensuring
alignment with client requirements and industry standards.
Combining engineering expertise with commercial awareness, the Technical Proposals Engineer plays a vital role in
supporting business growth, exceeding client expectations, and contributing to the company’s long-term success. A
solid understanding of welding, materials engineering, and relevant industry codes is essential. Equally important is the
ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and confidently to a wide range of stakeholders, both
internal and external.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Technical Management in Tendering
- Serve as the technical authority during bid preparation and proposal submission phases.
- Review and interpret client specifications, scopes of work, and deliverables to develop optimised, compliant,
and cost-effective technical solutions.
Collaborate across engineering, procurement, and commercial teams to ensure integrated and aligned proposalcontent.
2. Compliance and Industry Standards
Ensure all technical submissions adhere rigorously to international codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, DNV, ISO, NORSOK).Track and incorporate updates to global standards across product categories.Foster a culture of technical accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement in proposal development.3. Product and Technical Solution Development
Manage the preparation of technical proposals across a diverse product portfolio, including :
Mechanically Lined Pipes (MLP)Weld Clad Pipes and ComponentsHot Induction BendsCustom Fabricated Structures and ComponentsTailor solutions to address project-specific challenges and client requirements, highlighting technicaldifferentiation and added value.
4. Client and Market Engagement
Represent the company as a technical expert in client discussions, partner collaborations, and industry forumsduring bidding phases.
Deliver compelling technical presentations that communicate the company's capabilities and value proposition.Ensure proposals align with local regulatory frameworks, cultural expectations, and market-specific conditions.Respond to technical inquiries promptly while upholding the company's professional standards and reputation.5. Proposal Content Management
Maintain and curate a central repository of technical documentation, including standard content, prequalificationmaterials, and reference case studies.
Oversee document control processes, ensuring version accuracy, consistency, and traceability acrosssubmissions.
6. Reporting and Risk Assessment
Provide regular reports on bid progress, technical milestones, risks, and resource needs.Support bid / no-bid decisions by conducting technical feasibility reviews and risk assessments.Collaborate with commercial and legal teams to ensure that technical deliverables in contracts are achievableand clearly defined.
7. Strategic and Organisational Contribution
Contribute to the development and implementation of technical strategies, policies, and departmental targets inline with business objectives.
Represent the company in manufacturing, industry, and trade associations to strengthen its technical reputationand industry influence.
Promote a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration aligned with FTV Proclad's vision and values.Qualifications and Experience
Required :
Strong practical knowledge of welding and materials, particularly CRA alloys.Proven experience in client-facing technical roles with the ability to communicate complex engineering conceptseffectively.
Ability to lead technical discussions and respond clearly to technical questions from clients and internalstakeholders.
One or more of the following qualifications :
European Welding Engineer (EWE) or MSc in Welding EngineeringIncorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng)Degree in Metallurgy or Mechanical EngineeringDesirable :
Prior experience in the oil & gas sector, particularly involving corrosion-resistant materials and pipelinesolutions.
Previous experience in a technical proposals or commercial engineering role.Degree in an engineering or business discipline, with technical experience in materials, pipelines, or fabricationprocesses.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
Advanced understanding of welding processes and weld overlay applications.Strong metallurgical knowledge, especially in carbon steel, low alloy, and CRA materials.Familiarity with mechanical, chemical, and corrosion testing methodologies.Practical knowledge of induction bending procedures.Expertise in international design codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO, DNV).Understanding of manufacturing techniques for fittings and flanges.Strong presentation and technical communication skills.Proven experience managing technical content in complex, deadline-driven environments.Personal Attributes
