Lead Civil / Structural Engineer

Providing technical expertise to the business Contributing to business growth May manage and supervise teams AND / OR act as a technical specialist Performs complex assignments often requiring development of new or improved products, processes or techniques. Assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering designs, products, and equipment. Uses advanced technical knowledge to perform engineering assignments and produce engineering deliverables including complex problems and to complete any project tasks with minimal guidance and direction. May serve as the Lead Engineer or the project Technical Authority on projects and hold advanced level specialization in one or more areas of expertise. Functions as a technical specialist who develops applications, hypothesis, approaches and applies advanced engineering concepts to unique engineering problems In addition to specialization, generally directs highly qualified professionals engaged in complex engineering projects. Provides technical reviews for complex project within the area of expertise. In consulting business areas, may have authority for a portfolio of consulting projects, managing and providing technical direction and guidance, managing client relationship and project team engagement, with responsibility for cost, schedule, resource allocation and risk. Assists in establishing project aims and outcomes to contribute to the development of a comprehensive project design. Evaluates current procedures and recommends changes to improve the efficiency of planning and scheduling projects Makes recommendations on project organization requirements, work methods and procedures and technical innovations by devising practical and economical solutions to problems in own or various engineering disciplines. Supervises and participates in delivery of complex engineering tasks. Formulates and directs investigations or prototype, model and system studies, evaluating and interpreting the data obtained and recommending practical application of results. Contributes to successful project completion by participating in the resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard materials, and complex coordination requirements. Coordinates implementation of design engineering solutions. Reviews project-related documentation to ensure accuracy. Supervises complex engineering tasks related to a portion of a major project Work consists of complex procedures and tasks where diagnostic ability is required to assess the situation and identify appropriate actions to follow Assignments cover broad and complex subject matter where issues and factors may be characterized by unusual demands and require additional evaluation to establish the nature and scope of the problem Exercises mature business judgement in devising practical, economical solutions Participate in incident investigations as required Assesses work against standards, aims and specifications. Adhere to and comply with relevant discipline specific procedures and provide feedback for continuous improvement. Management of key stakeholders in the execution and delivery of contracted activities Organising, active participation and occasional leading of design reviews Provides expert advice on design processes, construction methods and other technical areas Advises on the development of new engineering methods and participates in short and long-range planning. Solves problems requiring application of research data in own and allied professional disciplines; exercises mature business judgment in devising practical, economical solutions. Perform the role of Technical Authority when appointed to do so. Provides expert advice on design processes or construction methods Advises on the development of new engineering methods and participates in short and long-range planning Evaluates options and selects technical solutions that optimises technical and financial success Acts as technical custodian for low to medium value bids and proposals Provides awareness of technical advancements and new ways to serve customer needs Helps to establish a culture of technical excellence through role modelling and communicating expectations Undertakes Technical Bid Evaluation for subcontracted scopes and may have oversight of vendors Contributes to business development through regular engagement, relationship building and delivery to clients, as well as seeking opportunities to expand scope of work for Wood. Contributes to engineering bids and proposals May be responsible for supervising technical specialists or engineers responsible for complex technical tasks. Provides technical guidance and direction to teams of professional and non-professional staff. Outlines requirements, assigns tasks, and supervises progress to ensure that targets and specifications are being met. Provides technical direction to project team members. Provides coaching and mentoring for direct reports. Monitor compliance with competence standards. Participates in recruitment, selection, transfers and promotion of resources to meet succession and business plans. Support the development and retention of motivated and competent people. Manages performance of direct reports. Supporting and supervising tasks delegated to direct reports / respective team Manage and direct resources efficiently and effectively. In consultancy business areas, may manage multiple small projects, with responsibility for cost, risk, resource allocation and risk Supervises delivery of subcontracted design engineering Provides appropriate HSSE leadership including compliance with site and office safety requirements and technical / design safety requirements. Establishes effective working relations with colleagues, associates, direct reports, project team members Develops productive, collaborative relationships of trust within and across offices and regions, as well as with functions. Shares resources and work appropriately, based on the good of the company as a whole. Interfaces with multiple disciplines including project engineers and Proposal groups Confers with engineers, managers, and others to discuss project, prepare documents and modify schedules Facilitates effective communication between various disciplines Establishes effective working relations with clients and officials. Build relationship with customers to discuss requirements, understands customer needs and applies technical solutions to meet goals Participates in professional organizations to maintain current knowledge of technical innovations. Actions and decisions typically have a significant influence on the medium-term technical, operational and financial results of a business group or function. Work is performed under general direction and is reviewed for conformance with policies and general efficiency. Assistance is provided with unusual situations that do not have clear goals Keeps manager informed of progress, potentially controversial matters or far-reaching implications May supervise a group of engineers, or may be an expert in their field, providing ideas, guidance and advice to others. Teaches / coaches problem solving, creative thinking and project planning skills to less experienced staff. Pursues progression of the corporate knowledge base Gives input for recruitment, discipline and performance issues Regularly provides functional supervision, i.e. assists, trains, reviews work Errors may have significant impact on profitability and customer relations Responsible for accuracy and timelines of work produced by assigned team B.S. or equivalent degree in the Engineering discipline from an accredited university Minimum of 15+ years relevant experience in major Brownfield oil & gas projects, including at least five (5) years in similar position. Specific experience in Oil and Gas projects across their lifecycle in the GCC region, preferred Pre-FEED, FEED experience is required Detailed Engineering experience is preferred Technically competent in own discipline, pursues continuous professional development of skills and knowledge according to standards Professional level of knowledge of relevant regulatory framework and legislation Ability to supervise, manage, motivate and mentor technical professionals Multi-discipline knowledge, knowledge of advanced principles and techniques of engineering as well as quality management standards and practices required Recognized as a technical expert with ability to develop and mentor more junior staff Ability to execute and oversee project scope, budget and schedule Consistently demonstrates creativity and innovation in finding solutions and alternatives to address complex client requirements Effective communication and interpersonal skills for inter-departmental and external company interactions Ability to diagnose and resolve significant and unusual problems and generate substantial improvements to practices and procedures. Agile, with ability to adapt and troublesheet solutions Ability to broadly interpret principles, theories, and concepts of an engineering specialty. Possess a good knowledge of the various Business Units, Functions, Sectors and services offered within business area, a general understanding of other Wood business offerings and some ability to network and connect internal stakeholders Has a in depth understanding of Wood's business position and commercial objectives, is able to implement recommend improvements to those commercial objectives. Understands and can manage technical and commercial risk.
