Job Description The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient / family education and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The Staff Nurse will understand, support and promote the mission, vision and values of SSMC; provides age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. The Staff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.

Responsibilities
- Assessment and Diagnosis : Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis / issues; assesses comprehensive data including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs and interprets assessment information to derive the diagnosis or issues defined by the patient's condition.
- Uses evidence-based assessment techniques and instruments in collecting data and validates the diagnosis or issue with the patient, family and healthcare team members as appropriate.
- Prioritizes the data and information collected based on the patient's immediate condition or anticipated needs and identifies potential risks or barriers to health or safety.
- Documents the data and information collected in compliance with established guidelines.
- Planning and Outcomes Identification : Identifies expected outcomes and develops a plan addressing health promotion, restoration and maintenance to attain outcomes. Involves patient, family and healthcare team in formulating a culturally appropriate individualized plan of care. Applies evidence-based nursing practices and modifies the plan as ongoing assessment and reevaluation occur. Documents outcomes as measurable goals using standardized language.
- Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery : Implements the plan in partnership with patient, family and healthcare team in a timely manner using evidence-based interventions. Performs treatments and procedures per guidelines, administers medications per policies, ensures documentation in the health record, communicates across levels of care, and demonstrates cost-effective resource use.
- Health Teaching and Promotion : Uses teaching strategies appropriate to the patient, promotes healthy lifestyles, seeks feedback on effectiveness (including teach-back) and documents health education components in the health record.
- Evaluation : Evaluates progress toward outcomes, patient / family understanding, revises diagnoses / outcomes / care plan as needed, and provides comprehensive handover / reports to ensure patient safety. Attends rounds and communicates changes in condition to the attending provider.
- Evidence-based Practice and Research : Integrates evidence-based knowledge into practice, participates in research activities appropriate to level, shares findings with the team, and participates in performance improvement.
- Leadership : Demonstrates leadership, coordinates and supervises delegated activities, shows critical thinking, pursues leadership opportunities, participates in shared decision-making, and supervises nurses and students to ensure safe care.
- Accountabilities : Applies professional ethics, maintains professional relationships, advocates for patients, questions practices when needed, discloses illegal or incompetent practices, evaluates own practice, considers cost and environmental impact, uses up-to-date standards and resources, navigates electronic resources, promotes a safe practice environment, communicates risks and prevention strategies, and commits to continuous learning.
- Emergency Response : Oversees and responds to emergencies according to organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Experience
Required : NLT 2 years of clinical experience post-qualification in an appropriate setting. (Note : Experience requirement waived for UAE nursing college / university graduates after internship.)
Desired : Not applicable.
Educational Qualification
Required : Bachelor degree in nursing OR degree in Nursing (minimum two-year course) and registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia; valid / current national license; BLS.
Desirable : ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty.
