The Museum Studio Programmes Unit Head is responsible for leading, developing, and managing all aspects of studio-based educational programs within the museum. This role ensures that the museum’s studio offerings are innovative, inclusive, and aligned with the institution’s mission to inspire learning, creativity, and engagement. The Unit Head supervises staff, collaborates with internal and external partners, and drives the vision for hands-on, participatory experiences for diverse audiences.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Management : Oversee the daily operations of the Studio Programmes Unit, including staff supervision, performance evaluation, and professional development.
- Program Development : Design, implement, and evaluate a range of studio-based educational programs for children, teens, adults, families, and special interest groups.
- Strategic Planning : Develop short- and long-term strategies to expand and enhance studio offerings, ensuring alignment with the museum’s educational goals and audience needs.
- Budget & Resource Management : Prepare and manage the unit’s budget; oversee procurement and maintenance of studio materials, equipment, and spaces.
- Collaboration : Work closely with curators, educators, artists, and community partners to create multidisciplinary and culturally relevant programs.
- Evaluation & Reporting : Collect and analyze data on program participation and impact; prepare reports for museum leadership and funders.
- Advocacy & Outreach : Represent the unit and the museum at public events, conferences, and professional gatherings; promote studio programs to broader audiences.
- Health & Safety : Ensure all studio activities comply with health, safety, and accessibility standards.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Museum Studies, Fine Arts, or a related field (Master’s preferred).Minimum of 5 years’ experience in educational program development, preferably in a museum or cultural institution setting.Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.Strong knowledge of studio art practices, materials, and techniques.Excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills.Experience working with diverse audiences and fostering inclusive learning environments.Ability to work collaboratively and build partnerships.Proficiency in budget management and reporting.Visionary leadership and creative problem solvingCultural competency and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusionTeam building and mentoringFlexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environmentExcellent interpersonal and public speaking skillsAttention to detail and ability to manage multiple prioritiesReporting Structure
